IMPHAL, Nov 14: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over three cases in connection with a series of violent incidents that took place in Jiribam in the last few days--including the militants' attack at Jakuradhor Karong on November 11.
Even as the NIA Headquarters and Imphal Branch have taken over the cases, the Special Court NIA Manipur has directed Jiribam and Borobekra police stations to hand over all the case related documents and seized material/exhibits to the NIA.
Today, the NIA had filed an application with the Special Court NIA Manipur seeking its direction to the police stations in Jiribam district to hand over the case records to the agency.
The NIA re-registered the cases following an order of the Central Ministry of Home Affairs on November 13.
The Special Public Prosecutor of the NIA told the Court that the first case is related to the November 11 incident at Jakuradhor Karong.
The Special PP submitted that the FIR is filed against unknown armed miscreants who fired on Borobekra police station, residential houses located at Jakuradhor Karong, and set ablaze some houses and shops.
The NIA has registered the case under different Sections BNS, Arms Acts and Section 20 of UA(P) Act, said the Special PP.
The second is also related to the November 11 attack on CRPF Post located at Jakuradhor Karong and Borobekra police station.
During the attack, the Special PP said, one CRPF Constable sustained bullet injury and he was evacuated to Silchar for medical treatment.
The attack was retaliated by CRPF personnel and civil police and after 50-60 minutes of exchange of firing, the situation was brought under control. A search conducted by the security forces afterward found 10 dead bodies of unidentified armed militants, and arms and ammunition were recovered from the area, said the Special PP.
The arms and ammunition recovered included 3 AK Assault Rifles with magazines, 4 Self loading Rifles (SLRs) along with 5 magazines, 2 INSAS Rifles with 1 magazine, 1 Rocket Propelled Grenade, 1 Pump Action gun, 18 live rounds of AK ammunition, 58 live rounds of SLR ammunition, 7 bulletproof helmets, 4 walkie talkie sets and 5 mobile handsets.
Considering the gravity of the offence, the NIA has been ordered to take over the case, said the Special PP.
Meanwhile, the third case is related to the murder and burning of Zosangkim of Jairolpokpi (Zairawn) Jiribam district on November 7 at around 9 pm at her residence by unknown armed miscreants, said the Special PP.
The Court, after hearing the submissions of Special PP NIA and on perusal of the applications, allowed the NIA to handle the cases.
The Court directed Judicial Magistrate First Class Jiribam to transfer all the judicial dockets, case records of the three cases with Borobekra police station and Jiribam police station, if any, to the NIA Court on or before November 22.
The Court also directed Investigating Officers of Borobekra and Jiribam police stations to hand over all the case related documents and materials/exhibits if any to the NIA at the earliest.
