Shot dead

IMPHAL, Nov 14: A man, identified as Waikhom Sanaton (27), was found shot dead this morning at Yaralpat, under Porompat police station.
Suspected to have been shot dead in the wee hours today, Sanaton was found with bullet wounds by locals who came out for morning walk.
After locals informed the police, Porompat police arrived and an inquest was carried out by forensic experts.
The police later recovered and deposited the body at JNIMS morgue.
Meanwhile, proscribed outfit Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) has claimed responsibility and stated that Waikhom Sanaton was given the death penalty for allegedly raping and attempting to kill a 14-year-old girl.
Waikhom Sanaton was son of late W Premkumar of Kharasom Makha Leikai, Imphal East.
The 27-year-old married man allegedly raped the minor threatening her with a knife, and attempted to kill her by hitting her with a brick on November 1, said the proscribed outfit in a statement issued by its assistant secretary, publicity, Bangkim.
