Remove bunkers : Locals

IMPHAL, Nov 13: Bunkers on the hills near Thumkhong and Moirangthem Loknung in Pukhao must be removed for safety and security of farmers and civilians, said locals, appealing to the Government.
United Committee of Pukhao & Makeng Dolaithabi GP (UCP&MDGP) advisor, Naorem Nageshwar said the bunkers and the presence of armed Kuki militants near the foothills pose a significant threat to farmers of the region during the harvesting season.
Paddy crops are ready for harvesting, but farmers are unable to go to the fields for fear of being attacked at. Kuki militants' attack on farmers have killed a woman recently and injured several others in the past, he said.
The mere presence of security forces can't instill a sense of security among the public. The bunkers must be dismantled to secure the area, he added.
If the bunkers are not removed and Kuki militants attack farmers and people in the region, the Government will be held responsible, he said.
