Thoubal, Nov 12 : Stray bullets reportedly fired from the sentry post of 3rd IRB at Khangabok struck a car (Maruti 800) travelling along National Highway 102 today at around 9.30 am.
Offended by the misfiring, the locals blocked half of the highway stretch at Khangabok for some time.
It is reported that the bullets pierced through the windshield of the car and shattered the rear window glass.
The car belongs to Sagolsem Rohit (38) of Wangjing Tekcham Leikai and he was going to a hospital for health check up along with his wife and two children.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
Apart from shattering the rear windshield, the fuel tank side of the car was found riddled with two bullet holes.
Bijilata, wife of Rohit, said that she was sitting beside her husband while her children were in the back seat when the car was struck by stray bullets.
Saying that his husband parked the car on hearing a strange sound, she continued that the rear windshield was found shattered when they checked the vehicle.
Smoke was found emitting from the car, she said and added that there were two bullet holes on the fuel tank side too.
She urged the Government to probe the incident and take action against the person who fired the bullets as such irresponsible conduct could cost the life of an innocent person.
According to reports received by the press, the bullets got misfired when a personnel of D/111 BSF was cleaning a service weapon.
Representatives of different clubs of Khangabok and Wangjing and Panchayati members convened a meeting shortly after the incident and took some resolutions.
The meeting resolved that the relevant authority should pay Rs 5 lakh as compensation to the victim, make public the details of the BSF personnel who misfired and terminate him.
They also demanded that the company of BSF stationed at the 3rd IRB camp should be withdrawn
