Govt-Spt CSOs meet over assault of two Poumai youths No headway in talk to end blockade

SENAPATI, Nov 11: Even as the 1st round of meeting, on the recent assault on two Naga youths between the agitating Senapati District Frontal Organizations and Govt of Manipur was held on Monday, it failed to bring about an agreement and end the economic blockade on Imphal-Dimapur road.
In the meeting at Old Secretariat Conference Hall, Imphal today, the Govt of Manipur was represented by Works Minister Th Govindas, Power Minister Biswajit Singh, MLA Kumo Sha, ADGP Kailun, Commissioner (Home) Ashok Kumar and Imphal East SP Meghachandra.
A 14-member team of Senapati District Frontal Organizations was led by Naga People's Organization president Kuba Peter, Senapati District Students Association president Saloni Tony and Senapati District Women's Association president RN Hannah.
During the meeting, the CSOs reportedly placed a charter of demands which included a demand for "unconditional apology from the Arambai Tenggol Unit-18", involvement of responsible valley based Civil Society Organization (CSO) to resolve the issue, booking of all individuals involved in the assault of two Naga youths at Lamshang on October 31 last.
The frontal organisations also demanded that the individuals involved in the assault be given stringent punishment according to law within a stipulated time and ensure justice for the victims.
Further, they demanded a stop to all forms of illegal  donation/tax on Naga truckers, traders and commuters by valley based organisations or groups. "Should any issue arise affecting the Naga community from the issue, the Govt of Manipur and the CSO concerned shall be held responsible," they said.
Any violation of the agreement  will be addressed according to the severity of the offences, following Customary Law, they added.
The district frontal organisations' representatives said the talk was positive and that the GoM representatives have agreed to forward the charter of demands to the Chief Minister to resolve the issue at the earliest.
However, the meeting concluded without any agreement to call off the ongoing agitation including the economic blockade, they said.
NPO officials said that the agitation will continue until an amicable solution is brought about by delivering justice to the victims.
Senapati district police have meanwhile said that around 400 loaded trucks have been stranded along Mao Gate to Senapati bazar stretch.
