MOIRANG, Nov 11: Even as Jiribam's Jakuradhor and Shanti Khongbal in Imphal East came under heavy fire today, Kuki militants rained bombs at Meitei settlements under Saiton Gram Panchayat in Bishnupur district injuring one village volunteer.
The attack at settlements near Watha Lambi under Saiton Gram Panchayat which was still on at the time of filing this report came in the wee hours at around 3, before the attacks at Jiribam (2.30 pm) and Shanti Khongbal (7 am).
Village volunteers were reportedly engaging the Kuki militants between Saiton and Sayang village.
Notably, attack at Saiton came hardly days after a married woman farmer named Sophia was shot and killed by Kuki militants on November 9.
The attack at Meitei settlements near Saiton Litanpokpi, mainly inhabited by Meitei Pangal community, came from Sayang village, which was earlier known as Hensat village.
While the gunfight from 3 am halted for some time, Kuki militants intensified their attack at around 4.30 am.
While the "gunfight is still on", sources said the militants were mostly firing bombs aiming to cause maximum damage. Village volunteers were retaliating and engaging the militants. Even as the gunfight has caused panic among the population at Litanpokpi, villagers were reportedly evacuating to safety.
