Authorities in Manipur have reportedly implemented a two-phase process to repatriate over 6,000 Myanmar Nationals taking refuge in the State due to the deteriorating security situation in the neighbouring country. The Manipur authorities have reportedly asked the Myanmar Nationals to go back by March 2025.
Reports suggest that during the visit by the State Government authorities to the refugee camps in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts on October 23, the Myanmar Nationals were instructed to leave the camps by December 10, 2024. However, the Myanmar Nationals with school-going children will be reportedly allowed to stay till March 2025 for completion of the annual exams of the students. These refugees mostly belong to Khampat town in the Sagaing region of northwestern Myanmar.
Though authorities in Manipur are tight-lipped on the issue, the matter was reportedly brought to light by the refugees who shared the development with international media, including Radio Free Asia operating in the Sagaing region of Myanmar.  North East Now
