IMPHAL, Nov 12
Globally renowned child climate activists Licypriya Kangujam has left India for a 7-day visit to Brazil to attend G20 Summit 2024 on the invitation of Brazilian President Lula da Silva.
This year, Brazil is hosting the crucial G20 Summit at Rio de Janeiro from November 12 to November 19.
13-year-old Licypriya Kangujam will address world leaders on fighting climate disinformation and will urge rich Nations to pay towards the lost and damage funds caused by climate crises.
The Loss and Damage Fund is a financial mechanism to help low-income countries pay for the damages caused by climate change.
At the summit, Licypriya will represent the voices of the global south.
In addition to key topics like ending war in Ukraine and Palestine, Licypriya will also highlight the ongoing conflict in Manipur and table several issues facing East Timor.
Licypriya is the only child invited from all over the world to speak in this year’s G20 Summit.
World leaders attending the G20 Summit are Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni and many African leaders.
On November 18, Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty will be launched during the G20 Summit under the initiative of the Brazilian Government and this will be co-chaired by President of East Timor, Dr Jose Ramos Horta.
The Alliance will be a global task force on social protection for nutrition, human capital, and local economic development of least developed Nations.
Meanwhile, Licypriya has skipped the United Nations Climate Conference 2024 - COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
