Mera Houchongba
IMPHAL, Nov 11 : Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) president Y Surjit Khuman has called for inculcation of work culture among the fellow Manipur before the economy collapses.
He made the appeal during the opening ceremony of a seven day Mera Houchongba Festive Fair being organised by District Handloom and Textiles, Imphal East at GM Hall.
At the function, the Government has been organising the festive fair since 2004 to strengthen the brotherly ties among the indigenous people of Manipur.
He further said that the fair is being organised to showcase the tradition and culture of the indigenous people.
Stating that the situation in Manipur is still grim, Surjit said that people of Manipur should focus on strengthening the economy of Manipur too apart from safeguarding the unity and integrity of the State.
Manipur will go backward if the State's economy collapses, he added.
Saying that work culture must be inculcated among the people to make Manipur a self reliant State, he added that the idea that Manipur can't survive without the help of others must be discarded.
Weavers Service Centre deputy director Priyadarshi Daripa, meanwhile, said that the demand for ethnic handloom and handicraft items of Manipur is high in other States.
She also said that weavers and artisans should work hard to expand their market outside Manipur as the demand is already high.
General Manager of Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Limited Th Basanta also attended the programme among others.
