DC Bishnupur fetes rising athletes and medallists

BISHNUPUR, Nov 11 : The District Administration Bishnupur, led by Deputy Commissioner Lourembam Bikram, in coordination with the District Youth Affairs and Sports Office, DYASO Bishnupur, today felicitated three young sportspersons from the district- Kh Madhusumita Devi, L Bidya Devi and Thokchom Supriya Devi, who recently brought home medals from international events.
 Notably, Kh Madhusumita Devi already a two-times  National games gold medallist and international karate player,  bagged a gold medal at the 8th Cadet, Junior, U-21 & Senior South Asian Karate Championship & AKF Referee Seminar 2024 which was held at Thimpu, Bhutan from July 13 to 20.
Thokchom Supriya Devi meanwhile bagged a 54 kg category silver medal at the Under 19 World Boxing Championships held in Colorado, USA, recently from October 25 to November 3, 2024, and L Bidya Devi brought home a 50 kg category bronze medal from the ASBC Asian Junior Boys & Girls and School Boys & Girls Boxing Championships 2024 held at Al Ain in Abu Dhabi from August 29 to September 9.
Speaking at the occasion, DC Lourembam Bikram commended the athletes for their dedication and achievements despite the numerous challenges they faced.
He reiterated the District Administration’s commitment to supporting promising sports talents and fostering a stronger sports culture in the district, which is already a powerhouse of sportspeople.
The District Youth Affairs and Sports Officer, Ibeyaima Devi, congratulated the athletes on their achievements and urged them to continue pursuing their dreams with greater ambition. She emphasized that the district is proud of their achievements and assured them of the office’s ongoing support.  
The Deputy Commissioner presented the athletes with the traditional lengyans and cash award of Rs 10,000 each from the District Sports Development Fund as part of the administration’s effort to motivate and support the young talents in a simple ceremony held at the conference hall of the Mini Secretariat, Complex, Bishnupur.
The athletes also interacted with the DC and shared their journeys. They also thanked the District Administration for the recognition and encouragement.
Prasanta Oinam, District Manager, DIT/Nodal Officer Bishnupur PM Award 2021 Khelo India Scheme along with coaches and family members of the athletes attended the ceremony.
