IMPHAL, Nov 11: Reacting strongly against the Kuki militants' attack at Shanti Khongbal which injured a farmer, Tangkhul student organisations have declared total shutdown of Ukhrul-Imphal road indefinitely from midnight today.
"The shutdown will remain in effect until the situation is properly addressed and justice is served," said the Tangkhul Aze Katamnao Long (TAKL) and Tangkhul Naga Valley Students' Association (TNVSA) in a statement.
The organisations said they vehemently condemn the gun attack which injured an innocent farmer. Notably, Kuki militants fired at farmers harvesting paddy at Shanti Khongbal near Yaingangpokpi in the morning. The attack in broad daylight injured Kanshok Horam, a Tangkhul farmer who hails from New Canaan village. The Kuki militants' attack on farmers tending their fields this morning was not an isolated incident. Such attacks in the past have hurt several farmers including killing a woman at Bishnupur district.
