2nd Governor's Cup Boxing NSA-A bag 5 gold medals as MKBA-A grab two

IMPHAL, Nov 11 : NSA-A registered as many as 5 gold medals while MKBA-A won 2 gold medals on the 6th day of the 2nd Governor's Cup Boxing Championships 2024 being organised by the Manipur Amateur Boxing Association at Khuman Lampak Boxing Arena.
The day also saw MSBA and PBA earning a gold medal apiece.
NSA-A opened their gold medal account when Ningthoukhongjam Robash notched up a unanimous 5-0 victory over Laishram Prabinson of UYDC in the school age boys's 35 kg category final. His compatriot Fajaba Naorem then sealed the second gold medal by defeating UBA's Bicky Soram 4-1 in the 40 kg category final.
Nelson Khwairakpam earned NSA-A third gold medal with a 3-2 win against Karung Albertson Kom of MKBA-A in the 55 kg final before Khundom Lanchenba sealed an RSC (3rd round) win over MKBA-A's Mayengbam Raj in the 58 kg category final bout and Sandam Victory defeated Ngashekpam Samson of UYDC 3-2 in the 61 kg category final bout to amass 5 gold medals for the unit.
For MKBA-A, Moibungkhongbam Lanchenba picked the first gold medal by defeating Gurumayum Jackson of PBA 4-1 in the school age boys' 49 kg final before Gershom Awungshi earned the second gold medal by securing an overwhelming 5-0 win over Thongam Jackson of PBA in the 52 kg category final bout.
Sagolshem Manimatum meanwhile earned a gold medal for MSBA as he defeated NSA-A's Pebam Joyhenba in the school age boys' 43 kg final before PBA's Gurumayum Maiken won 5-0 over NSA-B's Surtaljit Phanjoubam in the 46 kg category final bout.
Elite Men and Women
The day also saw completion of 16 semi-final bouts across different weight categories of elite men and women sections.
SRBA-A's Laishram Edipak reached the elite men's 51 kg category final with an unanimous 5-0 win against Bishwamitra Chongtham of PKBA as SAI STC Imphal's M Khristino Renish Singh earned a walk over win and MKBA-A's Pukhrambam Jackson defeated S Victor of SRBA-A 4-1 in the 54 kg category semi-final bouts.
Meanwhile, Thangjamcha Lakhmani of NBA outlasted Ph Satish Sharma of UBA with an RSC win in the first round  of a 60 kg category semi-final bout before Ningthoukhongjam Pushkar of UYDC prevailed 5-0 against MSBA's K Roshan in the other semi-final bout.
MSBA's Pheiroijam Meibrajit clinched a 3-2 win over N Bobosana of NBA in the second semi-final bout of the elite men's 63.5 kg category competition to set up a final date with Etash Khan of SRBA-A who earned a walkover win earlier.
In the elite men's 67 kg category semi-final bouts, Keisham Johnson of NBA overwhelmed UBA's G Hollen 5-0 and MKBA-A's Ningthoujam Khambaton posted a similar win over PBA's M Netajoy.
Ningthoujam Jackson of SRBA-A in the meantime entered 71 kg category final with a 5-0 win over Th Neo of UYDC before Leimapokpam Rahul of STC Utlou knocked out H Satish of UBA off an RSC win to seal his place in the 92 kg category final.
In the elite women's 48 kg category semi-final bouts staged today, Venika Yumnam of MKBA-A picked an RSC win over UYDC's Ngangom Rameshwori in the second round before Huidrom Karuna of SAI STC Imphal prevailed 5-0 over SRBA-A's W Ethoibi Chanu.
Playing for the elite women's 50 kg title will beMaibam Rosemary of SRBA-A who outlasted Elangbam Thoithoi of MKBA 5-0 and Toijam Bhumabati of PBA who edged out M Luxmi of SAI STC Imphal 3-2 in today's semi-final bouts.
Ningthoujam Manda also secured her place in the 52 kg category final with a 5-0 unanimous decision win over Kh Sarju of PBA.
