SOREPA sets record straight

The Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA) Kangleipak has clarified that the abduc-tion and physical assault of Joshua Kamei on November 5 at Keikhu Kabui village gate was carried out by a gang led by one Khaba of the outfit.
According to a press release issued by the outfit’s secretary, publicity and organisation MC Yaifabi, one Taslima, a Meitei Pangal woman from Keirao Mak-ting hired Khaba’s gang  and the gang abducted Kshe-trimayum Rishikesh Singh, Kshetrimayum Gandhi Singh and Kshetrimayum (ongbi) Sonia a few days back.
The three were abducted for they owed certain amount to Taslima.
On reaching Urup (Lai Haraopham), a car (Baleno) in which the three individuals were travelling was impounded by the gang.
As such, the three individuals walked back home. On the next day, the car was given back to them only after they gave Rs 2.5 lakh to the gang, SOREPA said.
Investigation into the incident revealed that some members of the party were involved in the incident.
The gang was formed by two/three members of SOREPA who have been defying the party’s principle and working against the revolutionary movement for their personal wellbeing, it said.
The gang which is extorting money in the name of SOREPA was set up by Sgt Mayengbam Amitap alias Khaba s/o M Sova of Wabagai Thingel Leikai      
It was this same gang led by Khaba which  assaulted Joshua Kamei, the outfit said.
Khaba and his gang members who have been defying the party’s principle and extorting money from the public in the name of the party for their personal wellbeing would be awarded befitting punishment as per the party’s rules, it said.
It also appealed to all the associates of Khaba’s gang to stay from the gang.
If they continue to associate with Khaba’s gang and its activities, they too will be awarded befitting punishment, the outfit warned.
SOREPA said that it respects all the communities settled together in Kangleipak/Manipur and values communal harmony.
It also appealed to all the people to be wary of such gangs who have been portraying the revolutionary movement in the wrong light.
It further announced that SOREPA would continue its campaign against drugs particularly No 4 (heroin), brown sugar etc.
The outfit also tendered apology to the Rongmei people for the involvement of one its cadres in physically assaulting Joshua Kamei.
