Cross erected atop Thangjing, again

IMPHAL, Nov 10 : A place of worship for Meeteis atop Thangjing Hill has yet again been desecrated by erecting a cross, claimed the Committee on Protection & Preservation of the Historical Rights of Koubru & Thangjing Hill Ranges. It may be mentioned that a cross was installed at the same site twice last year.
The Committee, in a statement, said that the cross was found erected by Kuki narco terrorists at the shrine of Ibudhou Thangjing on November 6.
Condemning the alleged attempt to hurt the religious sentiments of Meeteis, the Committee said that they have lodged  multiple complaints against the desecration of the sacred site but no action has been taken up by the Government to protect the site.
The Committee asked whether the Centre and the State Government have given permission to Kuki terrorists to erect a cross at the site sacred to the Meeteis whenever they want.
Saying that they have  lodged  a complaint to the Governor and the Chief Minister pertaining to the erection of the cross yesterday, the Committee said that same site was desecrated last year too.
The Committee said that  they  lodged four complaints in September and November last year too against the desecration of the same site but no action has been  taken up by the Government to protect the site.
It asked if the Centre and the State Government have given a free hand to the Kuki narco terrorists.
It seems like the Government has surrendered to the Kuki narco terrorists, it said while urging the Government to take action against the Kuki narco terrorists for the desecration and also protect the religious site of  Meeteis atop Thangjing Hill and.  
Notably, the desecration took place despite the directive from the Supreme Court to secure places of worship in Manipur.
The Court issued a directive on September 25, 2023, aimed at safeguarding religious buildings and proper- ties in the State in view of the crisis engulfing Manipur.
A Supreme Court-appointed panel also emphasized the urgency for the Manipur Government to identify and protect all religious buildings in the State, including Churches and Temples.
