NIA granted leave to question Kuki militants

IMPHAL, Oct 31: The Special Court, NIA Manipur has granted leave to the NIA Imphal Branch to question three Kuki militants who are currently lodged in Tihar Jail after they were arrested in connection with the ambush on Chief Minister N Biren’s advance security team who were proceeding towards Jiribam on June 10 this year.    
The Chief Investigation Officer of NIA Imphal Branch today filed an application before the Court against Jangminlun Singson alias Franky s/o Lamgin Singson of Bethel, Churachandpur, Jangjoulen Khongsai  alias Goulen Khongsai s/o Songhen Khongsai of Old Gelmol, Churachandpur, staying at Kotlen near Army Camp and Thangjoel Haokip alias Thangboi s/o Ngamkholen Haokip of Gamphajang, Churachandpur seeking permission for questioning them.
The Special PP, NIA submitted that around 10.40 am on June 10, 2024, some unknown armed miscreants suspected to be Kuki laid an ambush on Chief Minister N Biren’s advance security team coming from Imphal and proceeding to Jiribam.
During the ambush, one civilian driver identified as Moirangthem Ajesh sustained bullet injury on the back of right shoulder and Constable Ersad Ushman Khan of CID also sustained bullet injury.
The original case was registered at New Keithelmanbi police station of Kangpokpi district, Manipur on June 10, 2024.
Considering the gravity of the offence and other factors involved in the case, the Ministry of Home Affairs entrusted the case to the NIA on the next day.
Accordingly, NIA New Delhi took up the case by re-registering the original case on June 11, 2024.
The Special PP further submitted that involvement of the accused persons namely Jangminlun Singson alias Franky, Jangjoulen Khongsai alias Goulen Khongsai and Thangjoel Haokip alias Thangboi came into light in the course of the investigation.
The Court, after perusing the application and hearing the Special  PP granted leave to the NIA to question the accused persons inside the Central Jail, Tihar, New Delhi.
The Court also directed the NIA to approach the Special Court, NIA, New Delhi for necessary permission since the accused persons are in judicial custody in connection with NIA Delhi case.
