Four YoM members released

IMPHAL, Oct 31:  The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West today passed an order for release of four members of Youth of Manipur (YoM) on bail.
The four YoM members identified as Lourembam Rambo alias Shinthanganba (26) s/o Chandra of Langthabal Kunja Mayai Leikai, Maisnam Robinson alias Thawanjao (21) s/o Robindro of Kamong Maisnam Leikai, Tekcham Vishal alias Athoiba (24) s/o (L) Gambhir of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai and Huidrom Tomthil (36) s/o Nandakumar of Singjamei Sapam Leikai who were lodged in Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa in connection with a case registered at Imphal police station filed bail applications at the Court.
The bail applications were listed for hearing today.
According to the APP, the case was on against them after a suo moto case was registered on the alleged charges that the Youth of Manipur organized a protest rally from Singjamei on October 5 at around 8.30 pm and the rally proceeded toward hypersensitive zone of Babupara against the arrest of one transgender Malem Thongam by Imphal East district Police.
The facebook page “Youth of Manipur” uploaded the live telecast of the rally and they provoked the general public to join the rally and protest against the police and Government of Manipur
It was also alleged that the facebook live streaming of the rally by Youth of Manipur and those who commented on the live streaming directly threatened, intimidated and warned Manipur Police and Government of Manipur.
The defence counsels submitted that Youth of Manipur is a collective representing the younger generation of the State and plays a significant role in social, cultural and political activities often engaging in peaceful movement for educational reforms, cultural preservation and addressing social issues such as unemployment, drug abuse and regional conflict.
The petitioners were not involved in any illegal activities, rather their actions were motivated by a desire to maintain peace and unity in the state of Manipur, and had no bad intention.
The Court, after hearing the submission of APP, the defence counsels and on perusal of the case record, passed an order to release the four YoM members on bail on execution of Rs 30,000 bond and on the condition that they shall not threaten, contact or induce any of the prosecution witnesses and they shall make themselves available for interrogation by the IO as and when required.
