Naga chiefs oppose border fencing

SENAPATI, Oct 9: Naga Village Chiefs Federation, Manipur (NVCM) has vehemently opposed the fencing of Indo-Myanmar border in Naga inhabited areas, in pursuance to the resolution adopted in its 2nd assembly held on August 24 2024.
A statement issued by Sn Darthot Peter, secretary, NVCM on October 9 stated that the Government of India’s policy to fence the Indo-Myanmar border has infringed upon the rights of Nagas which is protected within the purview of the United Nations declaration on the rights of indigenous peoples.
NVCM has informed all the presidents/chairmen/chiefs of concerned associations to launch a non-cooperation movement against the Government or any other agency engaged in fencing the Indo-Myanmar border in Naga inhabited areas of Manipur.
It also appealed to all Naga village chiefs to abide by the directive in the interest and welfare of the Naga people.
