Anti-Drug Football and volleyball tournaments held in Kamjong

KAMJONG, Oct 9 :In a spirited initiative to promote a drug-free lifestyle among the youth, District Administration, Kamjong in coordination with Eastern Students' Union and Nongman Village Students' Union jointly organized a Two-Day 7-A-Side Football and Volleyball Tournament under the theme: "Role of Youth in Combating Drugs" under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan on October 7 and 8, 2024 at Nongman Village, Phungyar Block, Kamjong district.
The two-day event was attended by president, Eastern Students' Union Wungnaothan Chithung, headman of Nongman Village Ishmael Sareo and other village elders, church leaders and well-wishers.
In his speech, Wungnaothan Chithung appreciated DC Kamjong for initiating such a good programme for Nongman and other neighbouring villages, which are located at the extreme border.
He also emphasized the importance of such events in creating a positive and drug-free environment for the youth. He urged the youth to stay away from drugs and live a healthy life and appealed to them all to remain as a messenger for those who are indulged in drugs.
Appreciating the District Administration, headman of Nongman Village Rishmael Sareo requested the administration to organize such a program frequently so that the minds of the youth can be diverted from drugs to sports.
The two-day tournament, which aimed to promote a drug-free lifestyle while encouraging sportsmanship among the youth, featured 5(five) teams from neighbouring villages showcasing their skills and sportsmanship. The football tournament was clinched by Nongman Youth Club while the volleyball event was won by Gangster Volleyball Club.
Later, a "Walkathon and Signature Campaign" was also conducted with enthusiastic participation of around 400 youths from the nearby villages, which created a vibrant atmosphere, spreading the important message of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
