Former MHRC member Yambem Laba arrested

IMPHAL, Oct 8: Senior journalist and former member of the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC), Yambem Laba was arrested by a team of Imphal police station last night for allegedly brandishing a gun.
According to information received from family members, a team of Imphal police station came to the residence of Yambem Laba s/o (L) Tombi of Uripok Yambem Leikai last evening and asked him to come with them to talk about certain matters at the police station.
Accompanied by his wife, Yambem Laba went to Imphal police station and later at night he was arrested in connection with a complaint lodged against him and another person who is only known as Khuraijam Tony by a woman from Thangmeiband.  Till 6 pm today, Yambem Laba and Tony were not produced before any Court or Duty Magistrate.
Later in the evening at about 7 the two were produced before a Duty Magistrate with the prayer for 11 days police remand. On the other hand, defence counsel filed remand objection and prayed for bail. On perusing the case material, the Court remanded both of them to police custody till October 10 and directed that they be produced at 10 am of Oct 10 before the Court of CJM, Imphal West.
