IMPHAL, Oct 8 : Manipur represented by Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association, Manipur emerged overall team champions of the 30th National Junior Thang-Ta Championship 2024 organised by the Madhya Pradesh Thang-Ta Association under the aegis of the Thang-Ta Federation of India.
The championship held at Multipurpose Badminton Hall, Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education, Gwalior from October 5 concluded yesterday with Manipur finishing on top with as many as 17 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals. In all, 257 boys and 198 girls from across 26 State and UT Thang-Ta units vied for 167 medals in different competitions.
Jammu and Kashmir Thang-Ta Association finished runners up with 8 gold, 11 silver and 3 bronze medals as the host settled for a gold and 10 bronze medals.
Notably, Moirangthem Bablu (-44 kg), Thoiba Yumnam (-48 kg), Yumnam Malemnganba (-52 kg), Khumbongmayum Rohan (-65 kg), Nepolian Maibam (-80 kg) and RK Tondonsana (+80 kg) bagged gold medals for Manipur in the junior boys' Phunaba Ama competition as Yumnam Mahendra (-44 kg), Nongmaithem Bikash (-70 kg) and Loitongbam Thouna (+80 kg) won gold medals in Phunaba Ani event.
Lourembam Daina (-56 kg) and Nongthombam Puja (-75 kg), meanwhile won gold medals in the junior girls' Phunaba Ama event as Laishram Nibashini (-48 kg) bagged a gold medal in Phunaba Ani event.
Poklen Huirem and Aribam Rajlakshmi also clinched Manipur gold medals in Thang-Haiba events for boys and girls as Ningthoujam Mahesh and Gaitri Laishram grabbed Thanglon gold medals.
Yungreiphi Ahungshi Shimrei on the other hand won a gold medal in Khonglon-Khutlon event.
The team were led by Nongthombam Noren as team coach, Ahanthem Maya Chanu as women's team coach and Ngangom Keshorjit as team manager alongside Huidrom Kirankumar and Shagolshem Shyamananda as team officials.
