IDPs suspend proposed protest

MOIRANG, Oct 5: The Torbung Gram Panchayat Victim Committee has suspended its proposed protest at Delhi temporarily following an agreement with the Government on some of their demands.
Speaking to media persons at Moirang today, the committee’s co-convenor Moirangthem Roger Meitei said that they held a meeting with MLA Thongam Shanti, MLA Sanasam Premchandra, Bishnupur DC L Bikram, SP Bishnupur and other district level officers today.
The Government representatives assured that the committee’s major demands would be fulfilled within the current month, Roger said.
Putting faith in the Government representatives’ assurance, the committee has decided to suspend its proposed protest temporarily.
The committee also decided to go ahead with its proposed protest at Delhi if the Government fails to fulfil its assurance within the stipulated time, Roger added.
