UKHRUL, Oct 6 : An uneasy calm prevails over Ukhrul following the clash between villages on October 2 that claimed the lives of four and injured dozens of people. The ban on internet services continues.
There have been no major incidents of violence in the district headquarters since then however the situation remains tense. Security forces have been put on high alert to prevent any further confrontation between the villagers of Hunpung (Hundung) and Ukhrul (Hunphun), said sources.
Adequate personnel of security forces have been deployed from Ngaphar area to Phungreitang and peripheral areas of Ukhrul.
While police are continuing efforts to arrest armed miscreants involved in the October 2 violence, 2 more weapons looted from Ukhrul police station have been recovered today.
The weapons recovered are two Pistols, handed over to the police by civil society organisations.
Notably, mobs looted a total of 20 weapons from the Ukhrul police station when tension was high following the clash on October 2.
Police have so far recovered 18 of the 20 weapons.
Intense search is on to recover the remaining weapons.
The October 2 clash between Hunpung and Ukhrul/Hunphun village was triggered by a planned cleanliness drive at Thingrasa area--a disputed land, being claimed by both the villages.
