Arms recovered

IMPHAL, Oct 5: Security forces carried out a search operation at Wabagai Natekhong, Turenmei under Hiyanglam police station this morning and recovered a huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives.
A combined team of Kakching commandos, personnel of Hiyanglam police station, a platoon of 8th Battalion BSF, one column each of 5/9 GR and 33 Assam Rifles carried out the operation.
The items recovered during the operation include three Carbines with magazines, one Air Gun Rifle, two Single Barrel guns (one local made), one 9mm pistol with magazine, 14 hand grenades without detonators, one 51 mm mortar shell, two 2MK-III grenade, IED weighing 4.755 kilograms, four  detonators, six tear smoke shells, two anti-riot rubber bullets, two tube launchers, three arming rings, one live cartridge of 12 Bore gun, 20 live rounds of AK Rifle, seven live 9 mm rounds, six live rounds of  5.56 mm, 25 explosive cartridges, Baofeng set with charger, one helmet, two local made bullet proof plates and one pair of jungle boots.
The weapons were found concealed inside three rice bags in a secluded area at Wabagai Natekhong, Turenmei.
The operation was launched following reliable inputs about the presence of arms and ammunition in the area. The recovered weapons have been handed over to Hiyanglam police station for further investigation and necessary legal procedure, said a source.
