The stupidity Manipur has to suffer Yet another dolt saved

Something, somewhere is seriously wrong. On the day two youths held in captivity by Kuki militants were freed after six days, another youth was prevented from proceeding towards Leimakhong, another Kuki dominated area, late in the night by the people of Makhan village. Sticking one’s neck out to be added to the list of missing or dead persons or just plain stupidity. Just not enough words to come out against these acts and such acts go beyond stupidity for it has all the potential to further burn the place and throw everyone’s life out of gear. Discipline such wayward imbeciles of the society. Let them learn. Let them know that society can no longer be held hostage to their acts of stupidity. It is enough that Manipur has suffered on account of the ‘misadventure‘ of the three youths who ventured into a Kuki dominated area and here is another element trying to add to the story of stupidity. As stated in an earlier commentary here, most of the Meiteis who have died or have been made to disappear did so on their own volition and if the past is not enough lesson then one wonders what it would take to drill more sense into the heads of these dullards. Manipur can no longer tolerate such elements and one wonders why these youngsters are so dumb that they do not understand the gravity of the situation. Parents, elders of the family please educate the youths to the gravity of the situation. Teach them the geography of the place, the place where it would not be safe for them to venture out. Places which are safe and places which are unsafe, make sure this is taught to the youngsters. Make them learn the reality for it makes no sense to hold the whole of the place and the people to ransom with their acts of stupidity. The situation is bad as it is, and the ethnic strife has been ongoing for over 17 months now and if something as basic as this point does not get registered in their consciousness, then one wonders what will ? As on October 3, Manipur woke up to the morning of October 4 with the news that a 25 year old youth was stopped from proceeding towards Leimakhong by the people of Makhan and then handed over to Sekmai police. As expected, it was not with a sigh of relief that people digested the news of yet another youth stopped from stepping into a zone, from which there would probably be no return, with relief but with anger, incredulousness and questions on why some stupid elements are hell bent on creating more nuisance. The youth is now in the custody of the police and while this is certainly positive, there are yet many among the folks who are under the impression that he should be handed over to the family members after a good ‘enlightenment session’ from the people !
This is about the ‘daring’ folks who the people have to suffer in the ongoing clash and apart from these elements, ordinary folks have to also contend with quite a number of leikai heroes and heroines who do not hesitate in putting up huge obstacles in the middle of the road at night and order all motorists who may be out to drive switching off the headlights. Mei Muthatlaga Thou Garido is the barking order that one may receive if one is constrained to venture out in the night, including those engaged with the job of bringing out the day’s newspapers. Setting things on fire plum in the middle of the road, pulling out the barricades put up on the road median and piling them up as obstacles in the middle of the road, may be steps taken up to protest the failure of the Government to ensure the safety and lives of the people, but surely there should be other ways of protesting other than taking up these self destructive moves. As things stand, the fire lit in the middle of the road has led to massive potholes all over the major roads in Imphal and it is the common people who have to suffer these potholes. Manipur should think of better ways to lodge a protest which can be heard by the Government. For over 17 months, Manipur has been on the boil and it definitely does not help in inconveniencing each other or making things worse. And definitely late night protests by putting up barricades in the middle of the road does not inconvenience the people who matter, but the common folks.
