IMPHAL, Oct 4: The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has demanded a thorough enquiry of the violent clash which took place at Ukhrul to ascertain whether it was a result of intelligence failure, dereliction on the part of Home Department, who instigated the violence or whether the Government deliberately handed over arms to miscreants.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan, BT Road here today, MPCC president K Meghachandra asked as to why over 20 weapons including AK rifles and INSAS rifles were allowed to be looted from Ukhrul police station without any resistance when a violent clash broke out between two villages.
He went on to ask what the Government did even after knowing that there was tension between the two villages before October 2.
The violent clash is a reflection of the abject failure of the district administration and the Home Department, he said.
“We are not sure whether a Government is there in Manipur or if it is dead”, he said.
Meghachandra further asked if there is any place or district in Manipur which is free from violence or unrest.
Appealing to all the Tangkhuls to maintain calm and sanity, the MPCC president hailed the ongoing efforts of Tangkhul CSOs to bring peace in Ukhrul.
He said that the Congress party was saddened by the violent clash which broke out between Hundung and Hunpun villages on October 2 and left four persons dead and many injured.
