Twist emerges in death of woman

IMPHAL, Oct 29 : A possible twist has emerged in the sensational death case of Naorem Sanjita as the uncle of the deceased claimed that the woman died of subdural hematoma (head injury) as per the post mortem report.
Laishram ningol Naorem ongbi Sanjita (35) was the wife of Dipak of Kakwa Naorem Leikai.
Pregnant at the time, she was admitted to RIMS on September 12 morning with signs of suffocation and vomiting due to smoke from tear gas shells fired by security personnel the previous night as per earlier reports.
Sanjita died on September 18 after staying on ventilation for seven days in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit of RIMS Hospital.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club today, Gyaneshwor, uncle of Sanjita, said that there was a blood clot in the head of Sanjita and it was the cause of her death as per the post mortem report.
Saying that Sanjita complained about severe headache and vomiting during a phone conversation with her mother in the morning of September 12, he said that the claim that Sanjita fell unconscious after inhaling smoke from a tear gas shell is not reliable.
He said that Sanjita might have sustained the injury in her head due to a physical assault or after she fell on the ground or floor.
Even her husband Dipak said Sanjita fell unconscious after inhaling smoke from a tear gas shell and died later but his words are not reliable, he contended.
Gyaneshwor also said that smoke from any tear gas shell won't last more than 30 minutes. Expressing suspicion that Sanjita may have been harassed by some people, he appealed to all civil society organisations to extend help in finding out the circumstances which led to the demise of Sanjita and her unborn child.
