PM inaugurates drone service

IMPHAL, Oct 29 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated drone services through video conferencing and laid the foundation stone for various pivotal health sector projects, initiatives and drone/helicopter service on the auspicious occasion of Dhanvantari Jayanti and 9th Ayurveda Day.
This significant event underscores the Government's commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility and infrastructure across the region and the country, said a release issued by Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal (RIMS)
Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director of RIMS stated that the drone service project started in March 2024 under Union Health Ministry's "hub-and-spoke" model, in which RIMS functions as a central hub and Khumbong Community Health Centre as a spoke.
He further stated that "although the RIMS drone service began operations earlier, the inauguration by the Prime Minister today officially celebrates the project's importance in enhancing healthcare delivery."
He highlighted that RIMS has been recognized as one of the most prestigious centres for tertiary care institute in the country, having been directed by the Union Health Ministry to join the Nations League, reinforcing its role in the drone service initiative to improve medical access and services in the region.
Following the Prime  Minister's address, a drone service demonstration was conducted in front of Jubilee Hall, RIMS.
The program was attended by Medical Superintendent of RIMS Hospital, Deputy Director (Admn), Principal of College of Nursing and Dental College, CAO/FA, HODs, nursing officials, faculty members, staff and students of RIMS, Imphal.
