Yet another stretchered to Silchar for treatment

IMPHAL, Oct 25 : People in hill districts continue to struggle to access simple health care facility even as the Government has implemented health assurance schemes like Chief Ministergee Hakshelgee Tengbang (CMHT).
Highlighting the ordeals of people living in remote places of hill districts, chairman of Njukuak Village Authority Kutleing Pame shared how a 35 year old woman from his village was taken to a hospital at Silchar in Assam after carrying her on a bamboo stretcher for over 10 Kms.
Njukuak Village is located 16 Kms from Tousem Sub-Division in Tamenglong district.
The village chairman, in a statement, said that Wilamhaliu (35), wife of Sangju Pame of Njukuak Village was carried on a bamboo stretcher for over 10 Kms before they could find a vehicle to transport her to a hospital at Silchar, Assam.
He said that they took the woman to Silchar for treatment due to the lack of any proper medical facility in areas close to his village.
What compounds their suffering was the pathetic road condition on which they carried the sick woman for over 10 Kms.
Kutleing Pame said that this is not the first time they have transported sick people on a bamboo stretcher.
Saying that the situation is worse during the rainy season, he added that the road connecting Njukuak Village and Tousem Headquarters is so bad that even going to the nearby health care facility is a tremendous challenge to them.
It is the poor road infrastructure which compounds the woes of Njukuak and other villages nearby as they often have to take a long and exhausting journey on foot in search of better medical care whenever any of the villagers fall sick, he explained.
Stating that the inconvenience being faced by the villagers due to the pathetic road condition is immense, he requested the relevant authority to build better healthcare facility and road connectivity to address their grievances.
