For the Eyes of the DGP
Sir,
The DGP Manipur had lamented on WEAPONISATION OF SOCIETY (TSE dt 20th inst). We share his concern. But what the public, particularly the valley dwellers, have been yearning to hear from him and people who matter are reassurance in authoritative voice is “I will take all necessary actions to save you and your properties from the Kuki Chin invaders. You won’t need the weapons any more. The State will protect you. So you return the weapons which you will no longer require.” We are disappointed.
550 days is long enough for anybody, not to speak of an intelligent high officer like the present DGP, who have eyes and ears to study the present Manipur situation. Unfortunately people like the DGP see the situation in a different perspective. As the TSE in its Editorial ( dt 21.10.24) read ".....but one wonders why the police head referred to only the arms which have been looted from....... and failed to question from where the guns used by the Kukis have come......" That is exactly the point which Central Govt prefered to ignore so long. They still refer the conflict or misdemeanor of Kuki as Meteis and Kuki-Chin conflict as if suggesting that it was Meiteis who started it. But you have been here long enough. Have you ever heard Meiteis attacking Kukis and their properties except during the first few weeks of Kuki invasion on a non-suspecting Meitei populace ? You cannot pretend not seeing or hearing of persistent violence at Koutruk or Jiribam.
Now harvesting season is coming please wait for pot shots on the Meitei farmers or burning their fields by the all powerful Kukis. This is a humble and concerned citizen requesting the respectable DGP of Manipur, to put a few kind words to whomsoever he may consider helpful to save the Meiteis. "Please don't leave the poor farmers at the foothills at the mercy of the Kuki militants."
Yours faithfully,
AD Singh, Ahanthem Leikai, Imphal
