IMPHAL, Oct 20: The Universal  Mothers’ Organisation (UMO) has asserted that it’s not the time for power struggle among the MLAs/Ministers of Manipur.
Speaking to media persons at their Lamphelpat office today, Moirangthem Sorojini Leima said that all sections of the people have been suffering to the extreme on account of the protracted crisis.
Since the Kuki-Zo militant groups and their supporters launched a sustained aggression against Meitei people on May 3, 2023, many youngsters have died and many more suffered injuries.
It is a matter of grave concern that some MLAs/Ministers have been struggling for power amid the crisis, Sorojini said.
Citing reports that 19 MLAs/Ministers went to Delhi and submitted a letter demanding replacement of the incumbent Chief Minister, she asserted that the time is not right for such a move.
If a new Chief Minister cannot be elected soon after the incumbent one is removed, President’s Rule would be imposed in Manipur.
In such a scenario, it is the Meitei people, the village volunteers and the womenfolk who would suffer the most, she said.
She then appealed to all the MLAs/Ministers to think twice and focus on protecting Manipur.
