IMPHAL, Oct 20: The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) Manipur has warned that Manipur may witness an unprecedented mass uprising if the Government of India commits the blunder of granting Union Territory to the Kukis.
If the Government of India, thinking only about their geopolitics, initiates any step to grant a Union Territory of Puducherry model having its own Legislative Assembly, Manipur may witness an unprecedented mass uprising, FOCS warned in a statement.
The Kukis renewed their offensive just a day after a  joint meeting was held among Meitei, Naga and Kuki legislators at Delhi at the initiative of the Ministry of Home Affairs. It indicates that the Kukis now have little respect for the Government of India, it said.
Apart from targeting Meitei civilians, armed Kukis attacked a police station in Borobekra sub-division of Jiribam on October 19. They also burnt down a number of houses belonging to Meitei civilians, it said.
Even after Kukis have used long range rockets and weaponised drones to bomb civilians as well as security forces which has been described by many retired army officers as a direct threat to the internal security of India, the Government of India has not yet taken up a single tangible step against the Kuki militants, FOCS remarked before questioning if there any hidden agenda behind the Government of India’s silence.
Neither the Prime Minister nor the Union Home Minister has uttered a single word of condemnation against the aerial bombing, rocket attacks and the killings perpetrated by armed Kukis, it decried.
India’s failure to stop the Kuki aggression is highly suspicious. Despite being an emerging power, India is not taking up any tangible action against the armed Kukis even after the armed Kukis threatened the internal security of India. It evokes a serious question whether there is something behind the scene, FOCS said.
It further questioned the implications of the Government of India’s silence to the acts of terrorism unleashed by the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and other armed Kuki groups.
