IMP/TBL/BPR, Oct 2 : Normal life was affected in five valley districts for the second consecutive day on Wednesday due to the 48 hours bandh called by the JAC formed in connection with the abduction of two Meetei  youths  by Kuki militants on September 27.
The 48 hours bandh which began on October 1 (3 am) was called against the failure of the State Government to rescue  the two youths who have been taken hostages by Kuki militants.
There, however, is no report of any unfortunate incident taking place at sites where shutdown was enforced.
All major markets in Imphal viz Ima Markets, temporary market shed, Paona Keithel and Thangal Keithel, educational institutions (both Government and private) remained closed during the general strike while passenger service vehicles remained off the road.
Meanwhile in Bishnupur, keithels at Nambol, Oinam, Ningthoukhong, Moirang and Kumbi were closed endorsing the bandh.
Apart from shops and keithels, offices (both private and Government) and oil pumps in Bishnupur were also closed while passenger service vehicles stayed off the road.
The bandh was also enforced at Thinungei along Imphal-Churachandpur road by the local village volunteers and womenfolk.
People also blocked Tiddim Road at Naranseina and near Bishnupur Keithel.
The bandh was also enforced at Thoubal, Kakching and Hiyanglam by blocking roads at multiple places and closing shops and keithels.
Essential services and people going to attend  rituals, however, were unaffected by the bandh.
