IMPHAL, Oct 2 : Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba Leishemba has written to Union Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohon Naidu to review the fare policy of airlines flying in the Imphal sector so that the travel cost might be “concessional and affordable” to the flyers.
In the letter, the MP said that travelling by road to go other States has become unsafe for people belonging to the Meitei community as National Highway-37 (Imphal-Silchar) and NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur) and other highways pass through Kuki dominated hill areas of the State.
“Because of risk to their lives, all travellers, mostly students, patients for medical treatments, have to travel at least up to Guwahati or Kolkata by air,” the MP said.
This has become an additional burden for the people, he said.
Claiming that all airlines are also increasing the airfare for the Imphal sector sensing the rush in number of passengers, Sanajaoba appealed to  the Union Minister to make the airfare affordable.
“I am compelled to draw your kind consideration for a concessional airfare for travellers from Manipur to other parts of India,” he said in the letter.
