DGP visits Kpi for second day

IMPHAL, Oct 1 : Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Singh once again went to Kangpokpi today to secure the safe release of the two Meitei youths who have been taken hostages by Kuki militants since September 27.
Credible sources said that a team of Manipur Police led by DGP Rajiv Singh was seen heading toward Kangpokpi district at around 10.30 am and he spent around 4 and half hour in the district. The DGP returned to Imphal at around 3.15 pm.
The sources also said that DGP held a meeting with the senior police officers of Kangpokpi district to discuss the modalities of rescuing the two youths
Mention may be made that three youths, all from Thoubal Khekman were abducted by Kuki militants as they proceeded towards a Kuki inhibited place while going to attend a recruitment drive to join Assam Rifles on September 27.
Instead of going to New Keithelmanbi along Imphal-Jiribam road where the recruitment rally was held, the three youths drove at Kanglatongbi along Imphal Dimapur road instead.
They went together on a motorcycle.
Their mobile phones were found switched off at around 3 pm of the day after they reportedly crossed the security check post at Kanglatongbi.
Among the three youths, one of them identified as Ningombam Johnson, s/o Sanjoy of Thoubal Khekman Maning Leikai was rescued by security personnel in the wee hours of September 28.
Oinam Thoithoi of Thoubal Khekman Leishangthem Awang Leikai and Thokchom Thoithoiba of Thoubal Khekman Wangmataba Mayai Leikai, on the other hand, are still in the custody of the Kuki militants.
