IMPHAL, Oct 19: The body of Laishram Johnson at RIMS Mortuary will be claimed for cremation and last rites on Sunday.
This was stated today by the Joint Action Committee, formed against the brutal killing of Laishram Johnson and the torture of Elam Roshan of Laipham Khunou.
The decision to claim the body was taken after the Government agreed to act on its demands, said the JAC.
L Johnson was son of L Dhananjoy Singh of Laipham Khunou, and was killed by unknown persons on October 15.
Reportedly, L Johnson, Elam Roshan, and one N Varun were summoned by unknown persons on the phone.
When they went to meet the unknown callers, they were reportedly attacked by unidentified armed miscreants.
Johnson was brought to Khurkhul Primary Health Centre by unknown individuals, likely by those involved in the crime. He was, however, declared dead upon arrival. On the other hand, Elam Roshan, son of E Mangi Singh of Laipham Khunou, suffered brutal torture and was rushed to the ICU of a hospital.
Varun sustained minor injuries and was discharged.
Vehemently condemning the incident, the Joint Action Committee had then urged the Government for swift intervention to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The JAC had also submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N Biren Singh urging him to take immediate action to arrest and hold the culprits accountable.
Widespread protests were held demanding justice for L Johnson.
