BJP Govt is anti-tribal: Congress

IMPHAL, Oct 17 : Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president has claimed  that the BJP Government is anti-hill people and anti-tribal as they have deliberately chosen not to conduct ADCs elections for the last 4 years and it show .
He also said that the Resolution, dated 14th October, 2024, passed by Hill Areas Committee under Manipur Legislative Assembly, is unconstitutional, illegal and void of any source of law from the Constitution.
The last election to ADCs was held during the Congress regime in 2015 and the term ended in 2020, he said and added that there has been no elections to ADCs for the last 4 years.
The BJP Government's undemocratic and unconstitutional way of destroying the grassroots democracy in the hills of Manipur is against the interests of the people of the hills in Manipur, the Congress leader also said.
Temporary arrangement of functioning the ADCs through illegal means of selection by the BJP Government must be stopped immediately in the larger interests of the people of the hills of Manipur, he said and added that the HAC has no Constitutional authority derived from law to pass any such resolution that goes against the Constitution.
By not holding ADCs elections for the last 4 years, the financial devolution, Central grants-in-aid, Central financing, MGNREGS, Central schemes related with ADCs and the Finance Commission awards are being denied to the people of the hills in the State. This had already affected and squeezed the State Annual Budget 2024-2025, he claimed.
