Kom village raises red flag over encroachment

IMPHAL, Oct 15 : Over 100 people tried to encroach inot Ichum Keirap Kom Village in Kangpokpi yesterday, claimed the locals condemning the incident.
Addressing the media  at Manipur Press Club today, advisor to Ichum Keirap Kom Village Authority advisor M Hmanglholar Kom said that the incident took place at around 11 am yesterday.
Saying that over 100 people came to their village in one four wheeler and about 40 two wheeler vehicles and  tried to erect a monolith, he added that the group left without erecting the monolith as the district administration    issued  a prohibitory order under Section 163 of BNSS 2023.
He said that the group trying to erect the monolith without taking any approval from the Government and the locals of Ichum Keirap Kom Village was excessive.
Hmanglholar Kom said that Ichum Keirap Kom Village existed since 1871 AD and the same is recorded in Chei-tharol Kumbaba too.
He also said that the village has been paying hill house tax since 1939.
Saying that  two-three families from Charoi Pandongba stayed at the village for some time but they also have left the place about 35 years back, he added that over 100 people came to their village yesterday and tried to erect the monolith.
Meanwhile, Hmanglholar Kom said that one of the villagers namely L Reshemler Kom (60) who was coming from Langol Tarung to Ichum Keirap was assaulted by some unknown miscreants near Leimaram Maning.
Reshmler is undergoing treatment at RIMS, he said, condemning the assault.
The  Kom Tribe Organisation Valley (KTOV) also  claimed that about 100 miscreants attempted to encroach on Ichum Keirap Kom Village.
The Organisation also claimed that the miscreants assaulted one innocent  Kom villager.
Claiming that the miscreants wanted to occupy the ancestral land of Ichum Kom forcefully, it added that Koms are a peace loving community and integral part of Yelhoumee who stand for unity and integrity of Manipur.
Saying that they condemn the 'unprovoked attack' on Ichum Keirap Kom, KTOV appealed to all  concerned to not disturb the peace at the Kom Village and the surrounding areas in future.
It also appealed to the Chief Minister and Unified Command to ensure the safety and security of the Kom people.
