IMPHAL, Oct 15 : Human rights and environmental activist Jodha Heikrujam urged the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to send a fact finding team to probe cases of human rights violation and the narco terrorism in the State during the 57th  session of UNHRC which was held at Geneva from September 9 to October 11, 2024.
Conveying what he raised at the  UNHRC session during a press conference held at Manipur Press Club today,  Jodha (25), a resident of Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai, said that he shared what  has been happening in the State since May 3, 2023  during the UNHRC session which was attended by representatives of 191 countries.
It is Chin-Kuki narco terrorists backed by western and Middle  East countries who have been carrying out a hostile campaign against Manipur using sophisticated weapons, he said.
Saying that Manipur has been turned into a proxy battlefield with the fund coming from opium trade, the activist said that the Government of India has  failed to resolve the crisis despite knowing the far reaching impact of the conflict and the threat it poses on the National security.
He also said that the State Government and its machinery could not do much to restore normalcy in Manipur as it has been stripped of its power.
Saying that the Government of India agreed to protect the land, resources and the people of Manipur when the State merged with India, Jodha added that he sought the intervention of UNHRC to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur and restore normalcy in the State.
He further said that the unrest in Manipur is the handiwork of Chin-Kuki  narco terrorists whose quest for a separate Nation aligns with the geopolitics of western and Middle East countries.
Jodha also said he vowed  not to stop seeking the intervention of the United Nations to resolve the crisis until the latter intervenes during the UNHRC session.
He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of ignoring the domestic crisis which has been going on since May 3, 2023 and focusing on international peace efforts instead.
