Many protest against killing, torture

IMPHAL, Oct 15: A large number of people today staged a protest demonstration at Sangakpham Bazar demanding justice for the brutal killing of L Johnson Singh and inhuman torture of Elam Roshan Singh, both from Laipham Khunou.
Protesters, driven by grief and anger, urged authorities to identify and punish those responsible for the violent attack.
According to family reports, the tragic incident occurred on Monday morning when Johnson, Roshan, and a third youth, N Varun, were summoned by an unknown caller.
As they left their homes to meet the unknown caller, they were attacked by unidentified armed miscreants.
Johnson, son of L Dhananjoy Singh, was brought to Khurkhul PHC by unknown individuals, likely to be those involved in the crime, where he was declared dead upon arrival.
Roshan, son of E Mangi Singh, suffered brutal torture and is currently undergoing treatment in critical condition in the ICU of a hospital.
Varun sustained minor injuries and has since been discharged.
Local resident K Gyaneshwor expressed the community's anguish, stating that the brutal assault was inhumane and called for legal accountability.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC), formed in response to the incident, urged for swift Government intervention to bring the perpetrators to justice and to prevent such incidents in the future.
The protesters also submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N Biren Singh, emphasizing the need for immediate action and greater security in the region.
The protest demonstration was staged under the aegis of the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of L Johnson and Torture of E Roshan,
The JAC demanded swift and strong action from the authorities, insisting that justice must be served not only for the victims but for the entire locality.
Reflecting the community's determination to ensure safety and prevent such violence in the future, the JAC maintained that the protest will continue until the culprits are identified and held accountable.
