IMPHAL, Oct 13 : Manipur racked up an impressive 353 in second innings courtesy of half centuries from five batters but dismal 98 in first innings proved costly as they went down by 9 wickets to Goa in a Ranji Trophy Plate Group encounter at Goa Cricket Association Academy Ground, Porvorim.
Goa managed to post 376 runs in 109.2 overs in their first innings as they were asked to bat first by Manipur. RK Rex (2/43), K Priyojit (2/39), Bishworjit Konthoujam (2/65) and Lamabam Ajay (2/87) led the bowling attack for Manipur in this innings as Pheiroijam Jotin and Longjam Ronald picked one wicket apiece.
The State batters were, however, bowled out for 98 runs in 25.1 overs in the first innings as Shubham Tari of Goa wrecked havoc with an impressive haul of 5 wickets (5/41) while Ruthvik Naik (2/39) and Mohit Redkar (2/2) shared four wickets.
Asked to follow-on, Manipur improved their batting performance to gather an impressive total of 353 runs before being bowled out in 86.4 overs today (Day 3) to take a slender 75 run lead.
Karnajit who was dismissed for 17 in the first innings, gave Manipur a good start by adding 56 off 70 balls, studded with 11 fours before Md Al Bashid (52 off 93 balls, 5 fours) and Ngariyanbam Johnson (62 off 79 balls, 9 fours) formed an remarkable third wicket partnership of 106 runs to keep the scoreboard ticking.
Shubham Tari who got rid of Karnajit and Johnson earlier combined well with Darshan Misal to intensify their bowling attack and reduced Manipur to 232 for 7 in 60 overs, but Prafullomani and Rex resurrected the innings and added 48 runs for the 8th wicket partnership.
Prafullomani cracked 4 fours and 5 sixes on his way to 57-ball 63 before bowled out by Mohit Redkar. RK Rex then anchored with an unbeaten 71 off 81 balls, hitting 3 fours and 6 sixes to take Manipur to 353.
Shubam Tari returned with the best bowling figures of 4/47 as Darshan Misal (3/98) and Heramb Parab (2/58) shared five wickets.
Chasing 76 runs for the win, Goa lost only one wicket to reach the target within 11.4 overs. Rohan Kadam was unbeaten on 46 with Krishnamurthy Siddharth 7 not out to help Goa seal the opening game by 9 wickets.
