‘Bid to balkanise Manipur will be resisted’

THOUBAL, Oct 13 : Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has stated that he will resist all attempts to balkanise Manipur by exercising the power conferred on him by the people.
He made the remark while meeting internally displaced people (IDPs) taking refuge at relief camps set up at Serou, Sugnu and Kakching Khunou today.
During the meeting, the MP asked what the IDPs wanted him to raise in the upcoming session of the Parliament.
Speaking to the media by the sideline, the Congress MP   representing Inner Manipur continued that India should not think of breaking apart the State by taking advantage of the crisis in Manipur.
Bimol said that he will exercise all power conferred on him by the people to safeguard Manipur if the Centre attempts to destroy the territorial integrity of the State using Article 3 of the Constitution.
Indifference of the Centre to the turmoil in Manipur says so many things, he said and added that some people labelling those who reveal the faulty policies of the Government of India as opportunists is wrong.
Saying that every citizen of this country has the right to speak against the wrongdoings of the Government, the MP appealed to the State Government to focus on safeguarding the State and her people instead of engaging in petty politics.
Reiterating that he will fight tooth and nail if  the Centre tries to break Manipur apart to resolve the crisis engulfing the State since May 3, 2023, Bimol added that how Manipur merged with India was different from other States.India cannot bifurcate Manipur as per international law too, he added.
The MP was accompanied by Sugnu MLA K Ranjit.
The MLA donated five hectares of land (approx) of Sugnu Development Committee which is situated near Serou Bridge to build houses for the people of Serou who lost their houses amid the unrest.
Saying that adequate Central and State force personnel have also been deployed at Serou, K Ranjit appealed to IDPs from Serou who are still taking refuge elsewhere to return to their places.
Khundrakpam AC MLA Th Lokeshwor, on the other hand, said that the Government not repairing the road stretch from Wabagai to Sugnu which is in a pretty bad shape is very unfortunate.
He said that security forces face a lot of inconvenience while moving along the route at the time of emergency.
Saying that the road stretches at Koutruk, Senjam Chirang, Kadangband, Itham Moirangpurel etc are also  in dilapidated  conditions, he added that the Government can deduct money from the salary of MLAs to repair the roads in red zone areas.
