Kwak Tanba rituals held

IMPHAL, Oct 13 : As observed since ancient times , a Kwak Tanba ceremony was held at Sana Konung today.
The morning session of the ceremony (Kwak Tanba) began after leaders of different Panas assembled at Sana Konung in the presence of titular king cum Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba.
From Sana Konung, Leishemba Sanajaoba accompanied by leaders of Angom Ningthou Pana and others took out a religious procession upto Wangkhei WAL Club at Wangkhei Angom Leikai where the main ritual of Kwak Tanba was to be held.
At Wangkhei Angom Leikai, priests and priestess performed a ritual and a cultural dance for the prosperity and wellbeing of the people of Manipur.
The titular king also gave clothes to some people as part of the ritual.
Apart from holding a series of rituals, Thang-ta performance was also showcased by members of Khurai Pana, Wangkhei Pana, Khwai Ahallup Pana and Yaiskul Pana.
According to traditional belief, the ritual has been practised since time immemorial in which officials of the Sana Konung foretell the coming bad fortunes which may obstruct the development of the Manipuri kingdom by observing the flight of the crow.
At the function, Leishemba Sanajaoba prayed for peace to return in Manipur and  alleviate the suffering of the people.
Sri Sri Govindajee Temple Board also observed  Kwak Tanba at Palace Compound.
