Nagaland dist ready for enumeration exercise for non-indigenes Neighbouring State sets ball rolling with cut off years

The Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji, has announced an enumeration exercise aimed at the people and their direct descendants from the Garo, Kuki, Kachari, Mikir (Karbi), and Nepali/Gorkha communities residing in the district. This initiative follows a notification from the Commissioner of Nagaland, dated October 1, 2024.
The enumeration is set to assess individuals who settled in Nagaland prior to specific cutoff dates: Garo, Kuki, Kachari, and Mikir (Karbi) individuals must have settled in the State before December 1, 1963, while Nepali/Gorkhas must have done so before December 31, 1940. This exercise is crucial for the issuance of Identity Issuance Certificates (IIC) and Permanent Residence Certificates (PRC).
The enumeration will be conducted by the office of the Deputy Commissioner at both village and town levels using a prescribed proforma. Each enumeration sheet must be countersigned by various local authorities, including the Village Council Chairman or Municipal Council Chairman, village Gaon Buras (GBs) concerned, Area Administrative Officers, and representatives from the Garo, Kachari, Kuki, Mikir, and Nepali/Gorkha communities, as applicable. Final copies of the enumeration sheets will be submitted to the Home Department of Nagaland through the Commissioner for further deliberation before the Cabinet.

· Enumeration Exercise: November 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025
· Publication of Draft List: February 15, 2025
· Inviting Claims and Objections: February 17 to March 17, 2025
· Disposal of Claims and Objections: March 18 to April 21, 2025
