Shelter home opened

IMPHAL, Oct 11 : MAHUD and RD&PR Minister Yumnam Khemchand Khemchand inaugurated a 50 bedded shelter home for urban homeless at Porompat today.
The building was constructed by Manipur Urban Development Agency (MUDA) under Scheme of Shelter for Urban Homeless under the National Urban Livelihoods Mission.
At the function, Khemchand said that internally displaced people (IDPs) from Churachandpur and Moreh will be lodged at the shelter home inaugurated today.
Saying that the shelter home has a gas connection facility apart from the inmates being given utensils and some other household needs, the Minister  added that the Government is working to construct more shelter homes for the urban homeless.
The IDPs at relief camps are facing financial difficulties although the Government has been  providing edible items to them, the Minister said and maintained that the Government cannot look after all the needs of IDPs as the figure of people displaced is too high.
The Government, nonetheless, has been doing whatever it can to help the IDPs, he added.
