Indigenous wrestling training begins at Senapati DHQ

Senapati,  Oct 10 : With Senapati District, renowned for indigenous wrestling and traditional sports, it has come under the radar of ‘Khelo India Scheme’.
In order to promote the traditional wrestling, a full course training has begun for aspirant youths of Senapati District under the scheme ‘Khelo India’ initiated by Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry, Government of India.
The indigenous sport is being promoted with necessary infrastructure and facilities  accompanied by proper guidance and training under the mentorship of former Star wrestler P S Khopuh for the course.
Khopuh informed that training for the aspirant youth is given on a daily basis at the old mini stadium, Senapati, from 3 pm to 6 pm on free of charge basis.  While any youth could attend the training, it is recommended that teens under the age of 17 years are preferred and as they are more agile to adapt to tactics and techniques, he said.  
CM N Biren on his facebook page also expressed his delight about the ongoing training on indigenous games like wrestling.
