Probe death call raised

MOIRANG, Oct 10: Locals of Nambol have called for a Magisterial inquiry into the  death of IRB trainee Yelam Suvaschandra in Assam training centre.
Yelam Suvaschandra hailed from Nambol Kha-Jiri Maning Leikai, and died in a police training centre in Assam on October 6.
Making demands including a Magisterial inquiry into the death, compensation and die in harness appointment to his wife, the locals and a JAC, formed in connection with the death, have said that they will shut the Tiddim Road from 5 am to 5 pm of October 16 if the Government fails to act on the demands by October 15.
During a sit-in protest staged by the JAC at the Nambol Temporary Market Shed today, its co-convenor Naorem Ganga blamed the death on authorities' failure to act on time and heed to a request for timely medical attention.
If Yelam Suvaschandra was undergoing training here in Manipur, he could have gotten the medical attention he needed, and he would still be alive today, she said.
Suvaschandra's father,  Yelam Nimaichand said his son complained about having a health issue weeks before he passed away.
Nimaichand said his son sought permission to get treatment outside the training centre, but wasn't allowed in time.
When he finally got the permission for October 7, he unfortunately died a day earlier. If he was given the permission earlier, he could have gotten the medical attention he needed, Nimaichand said.
The father asserted that his son died because of the negligence of the authorities of the training centre in Assam, and appealed to the authorities concerned and the Government to take action against the officers responsible.
Meanwhile, a meeting held during the protest demonstration took several resolutions to be submitted to the Government.
The demands include a Judicial/Magisterial inquiry into the death, ex-gratia to next of kin,  a suitable job to the wife, conduction of IRB training at Manipur Police Training College, Pangei. If these demands are not met by October 15, Tiddim road will be shut the next day from 5 am to 5 pm, said the locals and the JAC.
