IMPHAL, Sep 30: The United Committee Manipur (UCM) has categorically stated that how the Government of India sees and treats Manipur will become very clear from its decision whether to rescue the two youths who are being held captive by Kuki militants or abandon them to their fates.
Celebrating the 128th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Irabot, UCM released around 5100 fingerlings in the Kekrupat Memorial pond today in collaboration with Fishery Department.
Speaking to media persons, UCM president YK Dhiren pointed out that most of the Kuki terrorists are currently under Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with the Government of India. One of these SoO groups have taken two innocent youths captive and the group has been demanding release of one prisoner under NIA custody in exchange of the two youths, he said. Whether the lives of the two innocent citizens should be saved or not is up to the Indian Home Minister, Dhiren said. Decrying that the Government seemed to be watching silently so far without doing anything to rescue the two youths, the UCM president warned that the people may launch a strong protest movement if the State Government and the Government of India do not rescue the hostages.
