IMPHAL, Jan 7 : A 7-Days State Level Training Programme on Beekeeping kicked off yesterday at the Training Hall of Directorate of Horticulture & Soil Conservation in Sanjenthong, Imphal.
The training programme is organized by Manipur Beekeeping and Honey Mission (MBHM), Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur under the sponsorship of National Bee Board, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India.
The inaugural programme was graced by Md Zakir Hussain, Mission Director, Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH); Lenin Khwairakpam, Deputy Director (HQ), Horticulture & Soil Conservation; and MIDH Officer-in charge Y Bikram among others.
The training programme will conclude on January 12.
Moreover, MBHM, Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur under the sponsorship of National Bee Board, Government of India also organised the inaugural function of a 7-days State Level Training Programme on Scientific Beekeeping kicked at Tera Lukram Leirak, Imphal on January 5, 2023.
The programme was graced by Md Zakir Hussain; Dr Soibam Khogen, Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Ukhrul; Dr N Ajitkumar, KVK Ukhrul, SMS, Plant Protection; Dr Johnson, KVK Churachandpur, SMS, Plant Protection and Dr RK Roshan, KVK Tamenglong, SMS, Horticulture among others.
Speaking on the occasion, MD Zakir Hussain highlighted the importance of beekeeping and its multiple benefits.
He said that beekeeping is becoming a profitable income generating activity for people of all ages because of the high demand of honey and bee related products.
He also mentioned that beekeeping requires minimal start-up investment and generally yields profits within the first year of operation.
The Mission Director shared that everyone should acknowledge and appreciate the farmers of the State who are working hard to produce food.
Md Zakir Hussain further said that the Agriculture, Horticulture & other Allied Departments are focused on empowering farmers of Manipur and improving their socio-economic condition.
Altogether, 30 persons including 4 progressive farmers from Oinam are taking part in the training programme.
