IMPHAL, Jan 20: Thawai Meerel has urged people to wear black badges on Republic Day.
It said the move is against the Government of India's failure to resolve the present crisis and violence that has marred Manipur since May 3, 2023.
At Manipur Press Club, Imphal today, Thawai Meerel convenor Thongam Dara urged the people to wear black badges and display black flags at their homes, offices, shops and vehicles.
Even as thousands of Central armed security forces have been rushed to Manipur, they have failed to protect the lives of innocent people and thwart attacks launched by Kuki militants, he said.
In the early days of the conflict, the Union Home Minister had made a promise to restore normalcy and bring peace in Manipur. While the promise was made, the conflict has worsened. On the other hand, Chief Minister N Biren Singh is still unable to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in person, Dara said.
The Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers and BJP Manipur Pradesh president should meet the Prime Minister to bring a solution to the crisis. If they are unable to meet the PM, then they must tender their resignation, he added.
When the State is in turmoil, no political parties should hold any political events in Manipur, he said.
The Government of India and State Government must immediately abrogate the Suspension of Operation (SoO) signed with the Kuki militants, he added.
