LEIKOL (Leimarol Khorjeikol), the Cultural Forum, Manipur and Progressive Literary House, Imphal observed the 104th birth anniversary of renowned writer and revolutionary poet Kumari Takhellambam Thoibi Devi yesterday.
LEIKOL held the 104th birth anniversary ceremony at the their head office in Kwakeithel Moirangpurel Leikai, as per a statement issued by GA Ghanapriya, secretary, LEIKOL.
The gathering paid floral tributes on the portrait of the late writer.
Associate Professor Dr Wahengbam Kumari Chanu, Manipuri Department, Manipur University spoke on the topic "Manipuri literature and Kumari Thoibi Devi for a new revolution in society" while LEIKOL members read out poems and song lyrics penned by the late writer.
Kshetrimayum Subadani, president, LEIKOL graced the ceremony as president.
The Cultural Forum, Manipur organised the birth anniversary observance ceremony at Manipur Assembly Secretariat Archives and Museum hall, Old Assembly Road Imphal yesterday.
The Forum also released the 213-214 edition of its trimonthly journal (literature peer review) "Ritu" on the occasion.
Toijam Tampha, Professor, Manipuri Dept, manipuri University is the editor of this journal, said a statement issued by Dr Naorem Ahanjao Meitei, general secretary, the Cultural Forum.
The event was attended by Huirem Bihari Singh, retired Prof Manipur University; Prof Rajen Toijamba, convenor, Manipuri Language Board, Sahitya Akademi and Prof Koijam Shantibala Devi, president, Cultural Forum Manipur as the chief guest, guest of honour and functional president respectively.
Sahitya Akademi Awardee Dr Naorem Bidyasagar Singh spoke on the topic "Takhellambam Thoibi as a lyricist".
Separately, the Progressive Literary House observed the 104th birth anniversary of revolutionary poet Takhellambam Thoibi Devi at Irabot Museum Complex at Sanjenbam, Shantipur yesterday.
As per a statement issued by Thokchom Suresh, convenor, Thoibi Devi Birthday Celebration Committee, Imphal, the event was graced many notables personalities namely, social worker Laishram Sotinkumar; CPI (M) Manipur secretary Ksh Santa and Sarat Salam, CPI (M) among others.
